Fermoworks converts brewery sidestreams into high-value fermented protein liquids and live microbial biofertilisers — independently verified, batch-traceable, and supply-chain secure.
Sustainability
The global biological inputs industry has a provenance problem. Most products travel thousands of kilometres, are derived from wild-caught marine resources, or carry opaque supply chains that cannot be verified by the buyer.
Fermoworks is structurally different. Our feedstock is a brewery disposal cost — brewer's spent grain and spent yeast — collected on-site at our partner breweries. No fishing fleet. No crop land. No virgin raw materials. The circular loop is built into the economics, not added as marketing.
Every input is traceable from substrate origin to customer delivery. Every batch carries an independent Certificate of Analysis. Buyers can verify what we say — because we document everything.
Both substrates — spent grain and spent yeast — are brewery waste streams. Fermoworks purchases neither. The circular model is the cost model.
Production happens inside existing brewery infrastructure. There is no long-haul freight leg embedded in the product. NZ-grown, NZ-made, NZ-delivered.
No fish stock pressure. No wild-catch dependency. A locally produced alternative to fishmeal and imported fish hydrolysate for aquaculture and horticulture.
Every batch is traceable from the named partner brewery to the customer IBC. Substrate origin, production date, and laboratory results are documented — not assumed.
BioGro NZ input assessment underway. Sustainable Winegrowing NZ alignment. Australian organic input certification (ACO) targeted for Year 2.
Process
Our proprietary process runs inside existing partner brewery fermentation vessels — no new infrastructure, no capital-intensive facility.
Brewer's spent grain and spent yeast are collected from our partner brewery. Each delivery is assessed for quality before entering the process. No off-specification substrate enters production.
Our conversion process runs inside the brewery's existing fermentation vessels under Fermoworks' documented quality system and SOPs. Process detail is commercially confidential.
Every batch is held pending a full Certificate of Analysis from an accredited NZ or Australian laboratory. No batch is released without sign-off against the product specification.
Finished product is filled into food-grade IBC totes with full batch documentation. Substrate origin, production site, and CoA travel with every delivery.
The circular loop
Products
All products share the same substrate traceability, QA framework, and batch Certificate of Analysis. Supplied in 1,000L food-grade IBC totes.
A live microbial soil amendment produced from circular brewery sidestreams. Sold as a live product with no heat treatment. Supports soil biology, microbial diversity, and nutrient cycling in high-value permanent crops.
A heat-stabilised, high-protein liquid from brewery sidestreams. Locally produced, independently tested alternative to imported fishmeal protein — with documented substrate traceability and zero wild-catch dependency.
A bulk liquid protein supplement for livestock and broadacre applications. Heat-stabilised, locally sourced, and lower-carbon than conventional imported protein inputs. Supplied direct or ex-works.
Why Fermoworks
A production-ready business with confirmed brewery capacity, documented processes, and a quality system built around independent verification — not self-certification.
Every IBC is released against its own independent laboratory certificate. This is not a single run CoA covering multiple batches — it is individual verification at the batch level. This is our standard, not the industry standard.
Substrate origin, production brewery, production date, and laboratory results are documented for every batch. Buyers can verify the supply chain from brewery to their gate — not just the finished product.
No currency exposure. No transoceanic shipping delays. No supply disruption from distant commodity markets. The product is made here, tested here, and delivered here — by a team you can call.
Brewery-origin provenance supports BioGro and regenerative certification pathways. Buyers in certified organic viticulture and aquaculture sustainability programmes can use our traceability documentation directly.
About
Fermoworks is operated by Contract Brewing Limited and based in Hamilton, New Zealand. The business was founded on a straightforward observation: breweries pay to dispose of spent grain and yeast, while aquaculture and horticulture industries import protein and biological inputs at significant cost and with opaque supply chains.
The Fermoworks model closes that loop. Production runs inside existing partner brewery fermentation vessels under our documented quality system — no new infrastructure required, no facility capital, no feedstock cost. Each partner brewery site is qualified to our standards before any production begins.
We are currently producing at our first New Zealand partner site. A second site is in qualification. Australian market entry is planned for Year 2.
LBF-HO: ACVM-exempt biostimulant/soil conditioner. HSNO Category A. BioGro input assessment underway. FPL products: ACVM Act registration in progress.
Year 1: New Zealand — Marlborough viticulture, NZ salmon aquaculture, Waikato dairy. Year 2: Australia — Barossa viticulture, AU finfish aquaculture.
